SHGCL Cup Winners.... SWLFC U14's & U16's

Great news from Saturdays SHGCL Cup finals held at Millmoor Juniors ground. Our U14's and U16's both won their respective cup finals.

SHGCL U14's Cup Final Result:
Sheff Utd 3 : 4 Sheff Wed
Manager Lee South report:

It was a Sheffield derby that delivered the excitement some of the senior encounters fail to deliver with 7 goals and late drama.

The early parts of the game were pretty even with the Owls probably just shading the greater share of possession. However it was United who took the lead. A lapse in defence was seized upon by the striker who finished well.

The Owls pressed for the equaliser but things didn't drop for them and United defended well. The breakthrough finally came from the penalty spot with Delia Hurdiss making it 1-1.

Half time: 1-1

SUCL started the first 20 minutes of the second half the much better team. This spell saw them take charge of the game going 3-1 up with goals from two corners.

SWLFC didn't give up and continued to work hard to get back into the final. With around 12 minutes to go they did. A corner from Abbie South headed home by Nicole Owen. 3-2 and game back on. A few minutes later the continued pressing brought the equaliser from captain Lottie Howe.

With 5 minutes to go the girls sensed a winner, chasing lost causes and working hard to make things as difficult as possible for the opponents. Reward came with a few minutes left. Good pressing play from Kayha Lea Williams saw her free from the keeper and able to fire the ball home. 4-3 to the girls and a fabulous comeback.

The girls managed the last few minutes really well to take the cup for the first time.

A great entertaining game all round and credit to our opponents Sheffield United on the day for their part in a great show.

Really proud manager alongside my partner in crime Luke Higgins. WAWAW
