The squad travelled to Osset to face an Albion team that had always been a bit of a bogey side for the Owls in recent seasons. Manager Dave Higgins had the luxury of taking a full squad which included Fay Cassiday (returning to the club) winger Jasmine Hughes and a rare outing for Keeper Kirsty Johnson.
The game kicked off and the Owls could have been 1-0 on 3 minutes with Emily Higgins through on goal only to see the keeper make a good save, Ossets first attempt came on 7 minutes when Emily Darwin blocked the oncoming player and shot. There were 3 more good efforts from Emily and Stacey Buxton before the Owls deservedly took the lead on 16 minutes when Emily was played through and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper 1-0. Ossett made it 1-1 just 2 minutes later when a loose ball was given away and the striker hit a good shot over a stranded Emily in goal. 21 minutes and 2-1 to the Owls when Brooke Marsdens free kicked was glanced home off the head of Stacey. Another great free kick from Brooke this time finding the back of the net giving the keeper no chance made it 3-1 on 41 minutes. There were more chances spurned by Wednesday who were by now looking comfortable but Ossett made it 3-2 just has half time approached when a cross from the right was mis hit and unfortunatley dropped over Emily into the goal.
Half Time: 3-2
The Owls started the 2nd half strong and scored 2 more goals in the first 12 minutes with Wendy Elwood charging down the left wing and crossing the ball low and hard towards the near post only to see it beat the keeper and find the back of the net. It was then 5-2 when Brooke followed up on a saved shot and hit the ball home from close range. The game looked won, with more efforts from Brooke and Emily both hitting the woodwork but Osset didn't roll over and a combination of balls given away by our lot, some great finishing and a close range header from a corner meant Ossett got back into the game with 3 goals in a crazy 15 minutes for 5-5. Ossett unbelievably took a 6-5 lead on 78 minutes with probably the goal of the game, a cleared ball from Wednesday was met and hit first time from almost the half way with the ball soaring over Kirsty Johnson (now in goal) to make it 6-5 Ossett. With 5 minutes left on the clock our lot woke up and threw everything except the kitchen sink at the Ossett goal and equalised through Stacey with a tap in for 6-6, there were still chances to win the game with both teams camped in the Ossett box. Various corners and shots rained on the goal but Ossett held on until the final whistle.
Full Time: 6-6
Well what a crazy game! Its always a tough game when we play Ossett, but at times this game looked comfortable and I dont think anyone will disagree that we could have score double the goals we did. However at times our play was not good enough, we gave the ball away far too easily. Take nothing away from Ossett though, they will always conced goals but they also scored some crackers including the shot from the half way line that made it 6-5 to them, I didn't know wether to laugh or cry so just applauded the strike instead. We did fight back to get the draw and could have won the game in the closing stages but that would have been tough on Ossett who deserved somthing for their fight back.
We have a bye in next weeks County Cup, so no game but a tough game the week after to early high flyers Altofts. Our lot owe them a result after the last minute extra time penalty saw them knock us out of the FA cup a few weeks ago.
