Game day 7 for the girls v last seasons runners up Sheffield FC, the second time we have met this season.
With the wind behind them the girls started the game really well, pegging Sheffield back in their half for most of the 1st half. Created numerous scoring chances and eventually took the lead when a great cross was finished by Jessica Sutton. The girls doubled their lead when great work from Millie Simms saw her round the keeper who then brought her down for a penalty. Millie stepped up and finished to make it 2-0 at the break.
Sheffield FC got themselves back in the game from a preventable corner, a dangerous cross which the girls didn’t deal with. A nervy period followed but the girls in fairness defended well. Sheffield’s main threat coming from corners. The girls gave themselves some breathing space when good pressing saw the ball fall to Delia Hurdiss to make it 3-1. Another nervy period followed when Sheffield were awarded a penalty for handball from another dangerous corner, one which they slotted home. Game on at 3-2. The girls responded and picked up the challenge, a great run and finish from Jess gave the us buffer the performance deserved. The game was then wrapped up in the last few minutes with a goal from Clara Miller. Full-time 5-2.
A great performance from the girls and it was great to see them all celebrate a goal with the injured Nicole Owen. Another mention for Jade Rennie-Campbell who was unwell but played through it for the team.
That’s a third of the season done and the girls are positioned well. Well done all.
