NERWFL:

SWLFC 1st 0 : 0 Altofts AFC

Todays Squad:

1. Emily Darwin, 4. Emma Otley, 7. Emily Higgins, 9. Libby Hallam, 10. Channy Rymer,

11. Stacey Buxton, 12. Amy Beck, 14. Brooke Marsden, 16. Ali Cutting, 17. Wendy Elwood,

18. Paige Lewis, 22. Sophie Trotter. 23. Fay Cassiday, 24. Jasmine Hughes.

The squad played hosts to an Altofts side that were high on confidence with an 100% league record and hoping to make amends for the last minute winner that Altofts got in the earlier season FA Cup tie.

Altofts were awarded an early free kick that was put well wide in the 4th minute before Stacey Buxton shot wide on 16 minutes. Emma Otley's shot landed on top of the goal before Channy Rymer had a shot saved on 21 minutes. The Owls had had the better of the chances in the first half with altofts limited to just the one chance. Stacey had another shot saved with Emily Higgins following up but unable to convert. Libby Hallam had the Owls last chance of the half just before the break.

Half time: 0-0

Our ladies will have felt they should have taken a lead into the break and it should have been 1-0 on 6 minutes when great football from Paige, Channy and a cross from Stacey saw Emily hit the ball over the bar from 10 yards out. The rest of the half played out with the teams cancelling each other out. The best chance fell to Stacey who rattled the cross bar from 20 yards but the rebound fell into a crowd but couldnt find the net. With the Owls looking the team most likely to get the goal Altofts broke away and Emily Darwin in goal had to be at her best to come out and stop the attack. A few corners came and went with Altofts defending well. Altofts did break through on goal late on in the game but a magnificent last ditch tackle from Sophie Trotter stopped the striker taking her chance. There were penalty appeals but the referee quite correctly judged Sophie to have made contact with the ball before the player.

Managers comments:

I was pleased with todays performance if not disappointed not to have got all 3 points. I thought we were the better team and had the lions share of the chances and deserved the win but Altofts defended resolutley. A clean sheet and in the end Emily in goal and Sophie made point winning stops that meant a clean sheet and still unbeaten in the league.

Next week off to Doncaster to face the Belles in what are usually very tough games.
