Game day 8 as we faced Chesterfield F.C., a team we came unstuck against twice last season. This season has been different though and the girls were looking to make it 3 wins from 3 against them this season. Squad was reduced to 13 due to holidays and injuries.
The game took a while to get going with the girls not at their best to be honest. When they did click it generally resulted in a chance but all of these went begging, at the same time credit to the opposition keeper w...ho made some great saves. A missed penalty made it start to feel like it was going to be one of those days.
The second half followed the pattern of the first with numerous chances passing us by. Breakthrough came from strange (but not for us) circumstances. A corner from Abbie South going straight in. Something she has done quite a few times now.
With about 10 minutes left Chesterfield got back into the game. A blatant hand ball in the build up meant it was hard to take but there were still opportunities to defend the situation.
As the final minutes played out the game looked like going either way. The girls were thankful of a great save from Skye to keep it 1-1. The save took on greater significance when with just a couple of minutes remaining, another corner from Abbie found its way to Delia Hurdiss who was composed to put the ball back in and Millie Simms headed home at the back post.
Final score 2-1. Score flattered opposition to be fair, our girls finding that little bit extra to see them home.
