The ladies played host to Doncaster Belles, the 2nd meeting in a week after the 4-2 away victory last Sunday. Goal keeper Emily Darwin was back between the sticks after resting for the week after the injury and trip to hospital in the last game.
The game kicked off and the first half hour was a pretty even affair with the few half chances falling mainly to the Owls. Channy Rymer had a shot saved on 7 minutes, Brooke hit a free kick from distance that went just wide and Emily had a shot on goal after a great pass from Sophie Eyre. The Belles had their first chance of the half on 32 minutes after a moment of madness when Emily came running out of her goal only to turn her back and stop the advancing striker who had only her to beat. The referee had no choice but to send Emily off, the only good fortune was that it was just outside the box. Midfielder Sophie Eyre volunteered to go in goal and the resultant free kick was sent wide. The Belles had the better of the last 10 minutes but it remained 0-0 at the break.
Half Time 0 - 0
The second half played out and other than putting the ball in the back of the net, our lot couldn't have done any better. They had the best chance of the half when Stacey laid the ball across the box for Emily Higgins who put the shot just over the bar. Brooke had a shot easily saved and Emma was unlucky not to hit the ball home in a goal mouth scramble. The Owls contiued to push and looked the liklier to win the game despite the player disadvantage.
Full time: 0-0
Disappointed not to have won the game in the end as I thought after an even first half we looked the liklier team to win the game despite having only 10 players for the best part of an hour. The Belles played the ball well at times but never really troubled us. No complaints with the sending off, Emily in goal has come running out and clattered the player, fortunatley just outside the box, with no other defenders around its deemed a goal scoring opportunity so off she went. Well done to midfielder Sophie Eyre who volunteered to go in goal.
Next week a trip to face Harrogate Railway.
