We knew it would be a tough game vs Rotherham United, as they do have a very good frontline, however we started really well, and took the lead within the first 5 minutes through Katrina, but couldn’t build on that lead, and we should have really. We were the better team in the half, with our midfield playing really well creating some great chances, and Katrina putting in another battling performance, but we were unable to take our chances and put the game to bed, Izzy I’m sure will be disappointed to have not put away some of the chances that fell her way, and we should have finished a chance when Katrina put through Jasmine with a fantastic through ball! But it just wasn’t to be.
HT 0-1 – Just told the girls to keep doing what they were doing, all of them were playing well, the defence were dealing with a very good Rotherham frontline, midfield and up top were creating chances, but we just needed to pick up the intensity like last week, and take our chances.
We couldn’t have started the second half any worse, conceding an equaliser within the first 5 minutes, a piece of poor defending allowing the Rotherham striker through one on one, and her finish gave Liz no chance. A dreadful start and very unlike us in the second half. From then on it was a very open game with both teams having good chances, Liz was called into action a few times, making one outstanding save from a free kick, tipping the shot onto the crossbar. Daisy was doing a lot of work up top, playing anywhere the ball was going , and creating a lot of chances for us with her passing any movement, but again we just couldn’t find the back of the net. We finally got the winner with about 13 minutes to go, after good work on the right side from Jess and Brooke created some space, and Brooke put in a very good cross on the floor, and Olivia popped up to jab the ball home for us.
FT 1-2 – A very tough game, against a team who has played really well against us in both game we have played them. What we have to take away from todays game is that, we did still create the chances, it was just taking them which was the issue. On another day it could have been 3-0 or 4-0 at half time. When the chances aren’t coming that when we need to worry, but the girls are getting into the right positions and more goals will come. To say we weren’t at our best, and still beat a team I would expect to be finishing in the top 4, says were doing alright. We need a bit more consistency to our game, and play at the high level we know we can, a lot more regular, hopefully starting next week vs Dronfield.
MOM – Rebecca Allen – There were a few good performances and some great moments for the girls individually in the game, Liz’s save from a very good free kick, Katrina fighting in the middle, Daisy looking good, Olivia with the winner, but gone for Becs this week. As said previously, Rotherham have a really good front line, and we limited them a lot, and a lot was down to Becs, sweeping up at the back and covering. She won a lot in the air, and when the covered or won the ball, she was confident enough to come out with the ball and try and pass the ball out. Another player who is now high on confidence and its starting to show
