We made the trip to Dronfield off the back of a couple of hard fought results, and with Dronfield drawing 1-1 last week to Utd, we knew their spirits would be high and that we would be in for a tough game. The game started and it was fairly even, we seemed to be getting more shots off than Dronfield however a lot were from distance. We made a breakthrough in the 15th minute after a fantastic pass from Katrina found Olivia, who finished brilliantly across the keeper into the bottom corner. After this we piled on the pressure trying to get a second but we were unable to. We had some great chances, one coming from Daisy after could work from Olivia down the left, but the Dronfield keeper was equal to it. Jasmine also made the keeper make a great save. Dronfield played their way back into the game and started seeing more of the ball, and after we lost possession in the middle of the pitch, they were able to break down our left side, cut the ball back, and finish smartly past Liz, who couldn’t do anything about the shot.

HT 1-1 – At half time we told the girls we had to keep doing what they were doing as they were unlucky not to be leading following the good chances we had made. Dronfield at times had limited us to long shots, and even when we broke them down we found a keeper in great form, so we had to just keep at it.

The second half started, and for 90% of the half, it was one way traffic. We had pushed Dronfield back, and they were unable to get out of there half. The defence were doing a brilliant job of starting good attacks when the ball found them, especially Rachel who was having a great game, and keeping their left winger quiet, who seemed to be Dronfield’s best outlet to run the ball out. She got the better of Rachel a couple of times and turned and ran, however Rachel was following ready to make a challenge, Jodie and Jess both given time and space around 30-40 yards out both striking the ball, but unfortunately not hitting the target. The girls in midfield and up front made some excellent chances. Izzy had one cleared off the line, and also hit the post. When the ball was free with an open net we pounced on the ball to finish, however Dronfield got to it first and were able to clear. Olivia was able to cut a great ball back to Daisy but the ball just went over the goal, however did make the Dronfield keeper make another outstanding save when she shot a great across the goal. The girls ran themselves into the ground trying to score, needing to be subbed due to being too tired to carry on. Dronfield’s team defended brilliantly and their keeper was in outstanding form unfortunately for us, and the game finished 1-1.

FT 1-1 – Credit where credit is due, Dronfield stopped us scoring. If it wasn’t a last ditch tackle, it was an outstanding save that stopped us scoring. Our girls worked so hard, did all we asked of them and more, it was just one of them days, where we all left the pitch very frustrated and very drained, . On another day the score line could have been so different. I feel how defensive Dronfield had to go, and how the girls came off the pitch absolutely gutted, it feeling like a loss, shows how far the team has come. We didn’t play bad, far from it, we played well, we were just unable to found that second goal. On a positive, it’s not a loss, and again, like last week, we made the chances, so many, and very soon, it will click!

MOM – Rachel Mccall – We have asked our full backs to try and help out more in attack, aswell as still doing their defensive duties, and Rachel did this brilliantly today. She combined superbly down the right with various players, contributing to some great moves down the right while also keeping the Dronfield winger on her side very quiet. She was strong in her tackling and smart with the ball, a really good performance from someone who is having a great season.
