The squad made their way for only the 2nd game of 2018 to Harrogate Town, a great little stadium with the benefit of a 3G pitch which meant the game would definatley go ahead. A squad of 13 made the trip with the numbers bolstered with the addition of Reserve team players Ellie Sanders and Phoebe Davis.

Without going into too much detail our lot had a shocker of a first half going into half time 3-0 down and having had only a couple of half chances. To be fair to Harrogate they were comfortably the better team throughout the half and could have scored a couple more if it wasn't for a great performance from Emily Darwin in goal. The game was videod by Harrogate and watching the goals back our defending was poor to say the least but Harrogate did take their goals very well. An early tap in started the scoring and then a superb volley for their second from a corner that was not cleared. The third and final goal of the half was a scrappy affair after we again lost possession to gift the goal.

Half Time 3-0

The Owls came out stronger in the second half and were unlucky when Channy Rymers thunderbolt of a shot hit the side netting with the keeper no where near. After a good 15 minutes Harrogate extended the lead with the ball given away again for 4-0. Harrogate turned it up a gear then and with help from our lot scored a couple of lovely goals before being rightly awarded a penalty. The resulting penalty summed up the game, Emily in goal pulled off a great save but Harrogate followed in to score leaving the majority of our team still stood on the edge of the penalty area. The final nail went in in the 93rd minute when Harrogate completed the 8 goal rout.

Final score: 8-0

Managers comments:

Well today we were shocking and Harrogate exploited us and thouroughly deserved the victory and could have had a few more if it wasn't for a great display from Emily in goal. Having watched the goals back our defending was poor from everyone and although there were some very good finishes from the opposition we certainly helped to make them look good. I have been incharge of the team for about 8 years and can't remember a game where we have lost as comprehensivley as that. If Channy's goal had gone in just into the 2nd half the scoreline might have looked different as we were having our best spell of the game. Onwards and hopefully upwards, bring on the next game and lets make amends for this one.
