Malet Lambert 0 : 4 SWLFC

1. Emily Darwin, 3. Sophie Trotter, 6. Sophie Eyre, 7. Emily Higgins, 10. Channy Rymer,

11. Stacey Buxton, 12. Amy Beck, 16. Ali Cutting, 17. Wendy Elwood, 18. Paige Lewis,

So another Sunday and a long trip to Hull to face Malet Lambert, more bad luck with illness, injury and no reserve players available meant a thread bare squad of just 10 players travelled. Luck was on our side as the opposition were having problems fielding a full team too so it was 10 v 10.

We altered our formation for this game with players playing in new positions and went with 3 at the back. The team set off like a house on fire and chances came and went with efforts for Stacey Buxton, Emily Higgins and Amy Beck all within the first 10 minutes. Malet did break through on a couple of occasions but never really troubled Emily Darwin in goal. The first goal of the game came on 27 minutes when a long throw from Wendy Elwood was knocked down by Stacey and Amy Beck   took the ball past 3 players and dispatched it giving the keeper no chance for 1-0. Just 3 minutes later and it was 2-0 when Emily (now playing midfield) put over a great cross that Amy fed to Stacey who made no mistake putting the ball in the net at the second attempt.

There was still time for more chances for the Owls with Emily glancing an header wide, Channy going close with a free kick and Sophie Eyre heading wide from a corner.

Half Time: 2-0

The second half continued in the same vein with our ladies playing the best football they have all season, lots of passing and plenty of efforts before Emily Darwin was called upon to make a great save from a Malet shot on goal 57 minutes in. It was 3-0 on 74 minutes when a super cross from Emily was met on the volley from Amy Beck who gave the keeper no chance. Malet managed a couple more half chances but the Owls kept attacking the opposition with Stacey missing two great one on one chances, Wendy hitting the post and Amy heading wide. The scoring was wrapped up on 84 minutes when another great set up from Emily was dispatched by Amy for 4-0.

Full Time: 4-0

Managers comments:

The dressing room was quiet before the game with doubts creeping in due to having just 10 players. I reminded the girls we were due a good performance and that they had to show more than they had in the previous game. I also said these were the games that could be remembered in the future when the odds were stacked against. As it happes Malet could only turn out 10 players too and we chose today to put in our best performance of the season so far. Great team work, passing and some quality goals. Very proud of the team today.

Next up a chance to make amends to for the shocking defeat to Harrogate Town last month.
