Cup quarter final day and we knew it would be a tough game, as it always is against Barnsley, especially away. We started very well, keeping the ball and creating chances however we couldn’t seem to break the deadlock. When we did finally get a goal, what a goal it was, a superb pass from Hannah found Daisy, who got the ball from out under her feet and fired the ball right into the top corner! It was more of the same after that, and Barnsley were threatening on the counter but the defence were doing a brilliant job, not allowing Barnsley any time, and covering runs and through balls together. We got our second goal just before half time when Brooke put in a corner which caused panic in the Barnsley box, and Jiggy capitalised on it to get her third of the season.
HT 0-2 – A brilliant half from the ladies, particularly the defence, with Nicole sweeping up a lot of attacks and Jiggy, doing a brilliant job on the right side vs Barnsley’s top scorer.
The second half started we found the going really tough. Barnsley were really taking the game to us, and had come out wanting to score in the second half. 2-0 is a dangerous score line, and we didn’t seem to be creating chances to really put the game to bed. Our passes weren’t quite finding their targets and our movement seemed to be a bit off, however I will say the girls battled to keep the ball out of our net, winning battles in midfield, and preventing Barnsley getting into our box. With around 10 minutes to go Hannah, like she had done before vs Barnsley got the ball on the edge of the box, twisted and turned, trying to find a yard to get a shot off, and she did, getting that all important third goal. Once this went in we seemed to loosen up and the chances started to flow again, and a fourth followed very quickly. Jiggy won the ball on the left wing, looked up and saw Daisy making a run. She found her with an inch perfect pass, and Daisy finished brilliantly! We rounded the game off after winning a free-kick on the edge of the box. Jiggy stepped up and rounded off a superb individual display by putting the ball straight in the top corner. She very very nearly got a hat trick in the last minute, but her left footed effort hit the post.
FT 0-5 – Through to the semi finals after a tough game. The defence and Lisa, worked very hard like they did last week for a clean sheet and it was a deserved clean sheet that they can all take credit for. Some great goals from the girls and a very tough 30 minutes in the second half, but they came through it superbly and are now looking forward to a semi final! A very physical game aswell, where we picked up a few knocks, Chloe, Brooke, Daisy and Courtney all coming out with a minor injury but should be alright for next week vs Sheffield Utd.
MOM – Elizabeth Walker – A tight one between Nicole and Jiggy today, but due to her goals and the assist for Daisy, JIggy just tips it. A gritty performance without the ball, she ran herself into the ground vs a very good Barnsley winger that she kept quiet all game, and came up with the goods in front of goal. She is becoming someone who is chipping in with some very vital goals and important times, and lets hope they will keep coming throughout the season.
