SWLFC reserves 3 - 2 Millmoor

Millmoor, sat currently in 2nd position, came into the game on a good run, but after last weeks win for us we went in with confidence aswell.

The game started and Millmoor had the better of the early exchanges, winning the midfield battle. Laura was called into early action with a free kick and a 1-1 and dealt with both brilliantly. In the 10th minute they hit the post and were building pressure. We had our first shot around 15 minutes in through Cala, the keeper spilled it but we couldn’t capitalise on it. Millmoor should have gone 1-0 when Ex-owl Delia tried to lob Laura, but put the ball wide. After that we grew in confidence, Olivia nearly lobbing the Millmoor keeper and then had a huge chance when going 1-1 but shot at the keeper. Going into the half we were on top, Cala testing the keeper again, Courtney hitting a blocked shot. Kelly and Laura tried to give the home fans a heart attack but we didn’t pay for it.

HT 0-0 - we went into the half the better team and just needed to keep that up now we were on top, and winning the 1st and 2nd balls and keeping the intensity up.

6 minutes into the half we broke the deadlock. Jodie superbly won the ball, keeping the ball in, playing into Cala, who then played into Olivia. Olivia shrugged off a defender and put it on a plate for Brooke to finish! However we let them back in almost straight away when Laura, and the Millmoor striker came together after a good save, it popped out the their leading scorer who finished neatly over the head who kelsey, who had covered brilliantly, but the lob was just too good. We then had a big chance to make it 2-1 after a great move involving Brooke Courtney and Olivia, but Becs couldn’t direct the ball in after Livs cross. We made a change 15 minutes in swapping Molly for Hannah who had worked her socks off on the left, and molly did the same in the second half with constant running. We did then make it 2-1 after Olivia won a ball from a MM throw, played a 1-2 with Courtney, ran into the box, and fired into the top corner! A great goal! 2 minutes later, we made it 3! Kelly played a great ball out from the back to Brooke’s feet, and the front two linked up again, playing a nice 1-2 and Olivia’s return pass finding Brooke perfectly, who was the coolest person on the pitch and finished into the bottom corner. Dina then swapped for Ellie, who along side Kelly and centre half, and both had played brilliantly together. MM made it 3-2 with 15 minutes to go, after we missed two headers in the box, and they finished from about a yard out giving Laura no chance. Emily then swapped for Courtney in centre midfield. We could have made it 4, through Olivia or Brooke, who both had good chances after the other had played them in. Emily, went running through, but was sandwiched between two players to stop her breaking into the box. After that the game played out without many chances for both teams. MM pushed a lot, and created some half chances, but the back four that finished the game, Kelsey Kelly Dina and Jodie, put some great tackles in and were very organised, and the effort from midfield and up top to win the ball back was plain for all to see. In the last couple of minutes Courtney swapped for Becs after she pulled up with cramp after a great bit of a defending.

Ft 3-2 - Best performance from the season from the ladies. The effort from everyone in a very intense game was on show all game. Credit to the subs who came into a very quick intense game but were up to speed straight away. The midfield got hold of the game after a shakey first 15, and after that I would say we looked the better team. And great win for the girls!

MOM - Olivia Mellor - a tough one today! Could have been any of the girls on the pitch, Laura made some great saves, Kelly brought her experience to the backline and mopped up brilliantly, skipper Jodie was as solid as ever, Cala and Courtney being physical, dominating midfield, and playing some great passes, I could mention each that player that played today. However watching the link up play between Brooke and Olivia was a joy today, and seeing their strike partnership grow is great to watch. With Liv getting herself a wonder goal and setting Brooke up for both of hers she just pipped her this week, but well done everyone!
