It's was a close call for the game of the day this week, our young Development teams semi-final win over 1st Division Sheff Utd just nicked the accolade but our 1st team were a very very close 2nd......

The 1st team travelled the long trip to Bridlington with just a bare 11 due to holidays and circumstances beyond our control. It would also have been unfair to take players away from our Reserve and Dev teams who were both involved in semi-finals.....

Brid play their home games on 3G so the game was on and although bathed in bright sunshine the wind was challenging to say the least for both teams.

Brid won the toss to have the of the wind behind them and used it to their advantage in the early stages and the Owls had to defend well struggling to get out of our own half, goal kicks were either blowing out of play or back into our half so there was more success playing out on the floor. Brid managed 4 possibly 5 shots in the first half but a combination of the wind and poor finishing meant only two were on target with the best of those seeing Michelle in goal down well and pushing the shot past the post for a corner. Disaster struck on 25 minutes when a strong but fair challenge saw Jodie floored hitting her head heavily and having to be helped from the pitch taking no further part in the game. This meant our lot had to play with just 10 players for the remaining 65 minutes of the game. A shuffle round with the team meaning top scorer Jess played the remainder of the game on the right wing with just Emily up top against Brids rigid back four. The Owls chances were limited in the first half but as the half went on our football got better and we did breach the oppositions defence with the best chance of the half being Demi's shot on 39 minutes.

Half time: 0-0

We knew at half time that Brids big chance was in the first half but conditions and some great defending from our 10 meant it was all to play for in the 2nd half with the wind behind us.

Another tough half with both teams doing well to play some great football in stages, our lot nearly took the lead from a throw in where there was a scramble at the near post with the keeper lucky to not have the ball sneak past her and then nearly carrying the ball over the line. To be fair Brid did have a few chances in the 2nd half and edged possession but once more only had two attempts on target that didn't cause Chelle any problems. Meanwhile Emily shot wide from an Emma corner and our ladies were doing their best to keep the pressure on the Brid goal. This paid off on 60 minutes when a loose ball fell to Channy, the one player you would want to pick the ball up 25 yards from goal, she hit a strike that would deserve to win any game, her shot flew into the top corner giving the keeper no chance 1-0. Jess was unlucky not to double the lead when she ran down the right and hit a low shot that struck the post and bounce back across the face of goal before being cleared. Brid did throw everything at us but again didn't trouble Chelle in goal as they struggled to hit the target. Our ladies defended like trojans for the last 10 minutes and saw the game out and finished deserved winners.

Manager Dave comments..
Never been so proud of the team, Brid are not mugs and are title contenders, but today it was easy to forget it was 11 v 10 for over an hour such was our performance. We didn't trouble their keeper too much but that was because we had to play one up top against their back 4, but when we got the chance we made it count. The full team worked their socks off but a special word for Jess Birtles, Sophie Trotter and Lucie Spendiff who were immense at the back. Also great to hear that Jodie is on the mend after the hospital diagnosed concussion and no major damage.

Well done ladies, that result put us top of the league but still many twists and turns with the season now due to run into May. UTO! #oneteam #superproud
