SWLFC U16's 2019/20 Season Review:

In the last of our Junior teams reviews we take a look at our U16's season. A season of change for the girls with coach Sam Riley and Ollie Ridgeway taking over the reigns with Neal and Shaun stepping down (albeit still involved with the club) the guys will agree a hard act to follow... The club are delighted to still have Sam involved with both himself and his predecessor Neal having earned their UEFA B coaching qualification during the season,

Manager Sam reports:

It was a mixed season for the U16's this year, we had a tough start to the season with a lot of ups and downs within the team, with long term injuries also the fixtures were not too kind with us playing one week then off the next sometimes even 2 weeks, therefore we struggled to gain momentum, however we managed to kick start our season and started playing some good football leaving us in a solid mid table position.

I'd just like to give a mention out to Ollie who was a great addition to the team, he came in just before Christmas as the assistant to help coach the girls and mixed into the team well. We knew this season would be a developmental year for the girls having set the bar so high after winning the league and shield double last season.

We had some great achievements this season as we managed to remain unbeaten at home all season and got to the shield semi final where we unfortunately we bowed out after leading 2-1 against Worksop Town (the eventual winners) after a great run in the competition.

Its unfortunate that we didn't get to finish our season as we very likely would have given chase to some teams just above us, however the most important thing is that the girls and there families try and stay as safe and healthy as possible throughout this horrible pandemic, and look forward to moving up to the U18s and getting back onto the pitch when the time allows us.

Well done to Sam, Ollie and the squad:
Sadie Austin, Ruby Connell, Megan Cumberbatch, Lucy Edwards, Evie Flint, Erica Flynn, Niamh Kerrigan, Eve Micklethwaite, Neve Renwick, Lucy Robinson, Ella Rose, Eleanor Smith, Reanna Smith, Maisie Stanley, Charley Taylor & Freya Thomas.
