Our U13's 2019/20 Season Review...

In what was always going to be a tough season for the girls after being promoted from Div 2 last season, Managers Richard Phillips and John Hammond with help and support from Dale Norcliffe and a great set of parents, were delighted with a mid table finish in a strong league and a quarter-final Cup appearance.

Richard reports...."
In what turned out to be the last game of the season the U13s won 6-2 vs Brampton Rovers. Both teams won promotion last season with the visitors in top spot so this was a great chance to see how the team had progressed .

With wide midfielder Ruby Whelan making her first start in the net due to illness of regular keeper Alicia Rosewarne, the Wednesday girls got off to a great start with leading goalscorer Ruby Leverton scoring in the 2nd minute and despite creating plenty of other chances the half time score was 1-0 to the Owls.

Just 2 minutes after the restart Wednesday got there 2nd from Chrissy Smith (37)after some great build up play. That opened the floodgates as Poppy Mellor (39) scored with a fierce drive from the edge of the box and Ruby L (42) adding another making it 4-0. Poppy (48) who played the 1st half as center back and the 2nd half as right winger got her second soon after and Ruby L (60) completed her Hat trick on the hour.
A late goal from Brampton (65) denied Ruby W a clean sheet and a second straight from the kick off(67) spurred the away team on but the defence held tight and player of the match Ruby L hit the woodwork in the final seconds.

A mid table finish in division 1 was a great achievement by the girls with plenty of positives to build on for next season. Well done to all the squad...
