SWLFC U12 2019/20 Season Review:

Having had a few players go on to pastures new before the season started we were slightly low on numbers but the trials were very good and a number of quality players came and the team looked strong again.

We felt very optimistic and excited going into the new season.

We started off really well staying unbeaten till around Christmas the loss which stopped our unbeaten run knocked the girls back a bit but we carried on staying unbeaten in the league and playing amazing football.

The performances were top draw throughout the season, some of the football was pleasing on the eye and every player on the team gave 100% commitment and effort. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The best performance was in the cup v Millmoor Juniors who were in the division above us. Going into this game we felt we could match them and give them a good game which we did.

The first half finished with us being 3-0 down and this did not reflect the way we played. After a good half time team talk we played even better and passed the ball about and created so many chances we levelled the game 3-3 and could have snatched the win. However it went to extra time and we got a goal to go 4-3 in front however we conceded with last kick of the game to a very unusual goal how it went in I still don’t know! It went to penalties and we missed out 4-3. But the performance was amazing and it showed this team can compete at the top division.

We stayed joint top of the league winning comfortably and we were on course to go up and most likely win the league however with COVID19 coming the league has to be stopped which was a shame but the right decision.

All the parents, myself and Ifrah and especially the team all should feel very proud of how they conduct themselves and how they have performed. It’s been the most enjoyable season as a coach for me. I love training this team and going to games on a Saturday morning.

Every player has been great , Lucy Richardson our captain keeping everyone on their toes including me! Our new Goal Keeper Georgina Cawrey aka G has been great with 9 clean sheets in 18 games and that’s thanks to our defensive unit too. Lucy Richardson who so determined and organising the defence, Poppy Dennel (vice captain) who carries the ball out of defence and so fast and Louise Stone who been great since signing midway in the season. The other end of the pitch has been great too Kelsey Robinson scoring an amazing 44 goals and also to our other excellent strikers who all have amazing different qualities Sophie Goodwin with 12 goals, Evie Brown 15 goals and Holly Lee who has improved so much bagging 24 goals. But these goals would not have been scored without the hard work, vision, creativity and determination in midfield. Ava Forrest scoring 4 and creating so many goals, Sophie Wigfield who never played for a team before scoring 3 goals and having unbelievable work rate, Jessica Birch who for me scored the goal of the season v Dronfield never seen someone strike a ball so clean scoring 4 goals, Maddison Lee scoring 11 from midfield too and sometimes having to play in defence so versatile. Aya Salih working so hard breaking up play and Amani Saleh creating so much play which makes this team very strong.

Every single player we are proud of you and hope to see you all next season for another great season and probably more challenging too.
