Sheffield Wednesday Ladies lost 8-3 at home to Millmoor Juniors this past weekend.
The Owls were looking to build on their win against Bradford (Park Avenue) last time out, but it wasn’t to be despite a pair of goals from Hannah Jackson and another from Molly Wilde.
With the game moved from the grass pitches at SHU Sports Park to the 3G due to the torrential rain that fell on Sunday morning, SWLFC set about trying to grab their second win of the season in tricky conditions.
Interim manager Mick Bigley had plenty to enjoy in the opening 45 as well, with some solid passages of play that left Millmoor narrowly leading 3-2 by half time.
Unlike a week ago against Bradford when the Owls emphatically claimed the second half for a valuable win, this time the final 45 was their undoing.
Quickly pulling the score back level at 3-3 gave the hosts hope that a positive result could be on the cards once again but Millmoor took total control of the contest in the closing twenty minutes to put an emphatic slant on the final score.
Speaking after the game, Bigley said: “I’m really proud of all the players for the shift they put in today.
“I think that the result aside, that was still a great team performance.
“I think we played some quality football across the 90 minutes, it’s a pity the final score tells a different story. We know what we need to work on and we’ll do just that in the coming weeks.”
SWLFC now have a week off with no game scheduled for this coming weekend, meaning the Owls are next in action at home to Harworth Colliery on 6 November.
Elsewhere this weekend, our U15s did manage to get one over on Millmoor Juniors as they won their clash with the Rotherham side 7-0.
Kelsey Spink-Robinson continued her bright start to the season with a hattrick in that one, whilst Amber MacKenzie (2), Sophie Carys Goodwin and Isobel Foster were also on the score sheet.
The U13s lost out in a tight contest with SUFC Community Red, with a 3-2 score line, and our U12s were also on the wrong end of a 6-2 result away to Handsworth Juniors.
Our U11 Whites took on Sprotbrough & Cusworth, our U11 Blues went up against Millmoor Juniors, our U10s played at home against Crosspool Girls and our U9s travelled to AFC Pogmoor. Well done to all four of those teams, with reports of plenty of quality football being played.
