With wet weather for most of the country at the back end of last week and into the weekend, SWLFC’s list of ten scheduled fixtures ended up being reduced.
One contest that didn’t fall foul of the elements was the senior’s County Cup fixture against Hall Green United, with the weekend’s opponents instead electing to award the game after pulling out of the competition.
That means Mick Bigley’s side will be in the hat for the next round, with the team’s next opponents still to be confirmed.
Of the nine junior games from Saturday morning, seven survived, with just the U16’s County Cup tie with Middlewood Rovers and the U11 Blues clash with Barnsley Women failing to go ahead.
In tricky conditions, the U18s went down 2-0 away to Charnock Ridgeway.
Trailing by a goal at the interval, the young Owls couldn’t find a breakthrough in the second 45 before conceding just after the hour mark at Springs Academy.
It was a tough result to take after restricting the hosts to just three shots across the 90 minutes, but it wasn’t to be for the 18s who now look ahead to a cup tie with Crosspool next Saturday.
The U15s would also fall just short, losing 2-1 against Harworth Colliery.
Shipping a goal early, the Owls enjoyed another strike from Kelsey Spink-Robinson but a second for the hosts with twenty minutes to go was enough to seal all three points.
An Emily Wade goal wasn’t enough for the U14s as they lost out 3-1 away to Chesterfield despite an encouraging team performance, and the U13s weren’t able to progress in the County Cup as they fell 6-3 away to Scawthorpe Scorpions.
In the younger age groups, three games took place as the U11 Whites went to Eckington Belles, the U10s were away to Nether Green Gold, and the U9s paid a visit to Handsworth. Well done to all three teams across a wet and windy weekend.
