There were a number of games planned across the club this weekend, though the cold snap moving across the country put paid to a portion of them.

The seniors’ clash with Ossett United ended up as one of the postponements yesterday. The club hugely appreciates the lengths that our hosts went to in order to source a suitable venue for the game, only for snow to arrive and cause significant issues getting our team safely to West Yorkshire.

Seven junior games were scheduled for Saturday morning, though ultimately only four of them managed to take place once all was said and done.

The U18s are up to fifth in the table following their third win of the season as Christian Dunn’s side knocked off Handsworth 3-2.

Goals from Millie Dunn and Caitlin Walker put the finishing touches on a great opening 45 for the Owls, but the visitors came back into the contest after the break to make SWLFC work for the win.

Emma Heafey came off the bench to bag a third for the hosts, sealing all three points in the team’s penultimate game of 2022.

The U16s improved on last week’s 1-1 with SUFC Community White to record an emphatic 4-1 victory away to 2nd place Kiveton Park.

2-0 up within the first 20 minutes after quickfire goals from Christiana Smith and Kara Bennett, the Owls would add an Alexandra Wyborn effort on 64 minutes before Mika Russell rounded out the scoring with 15 minutes to go.

The result sees the 3rd place Owls reel in Kiveton, with SWLFC now five points behind in third spot and with a game in hand.

There was no game for our U15s or U14s, who were both scheduled to play Barnsley FC Ladies, so we’ll work to secure new dates for both those fixtures.

In the younger age groups, our U11 Blues couldn’t beat the weather, but the U11 Whites gave a great account of themselves at home to Nether Green, and the U10s did really well against Dronfield Town Red.
